The game of Uni is a prototype digital board game where the player tries to manage the constant ups and downs of life at university while they make their way to graduation.
This game was made to fit the brief of QUT’s widening participation program with the goal of encouraging individuals from low socioeconomic rural areas to consider University as an option for after high school. Our team approached this brief by designing a game that focused on the aspects of university outside of the qualifications you receive at the end such as the common social experiences or preparations for life that students often encounter.
My role in this project was as Producer and a Designer.
I successfully managed the completion of this project by planning and monitoring the development of the project, this was done in an Agile method primarily with the use of a Gantt chart to ensure key dependencies were accomplished on time.
My role as a designer consisted of developing the digital board and its interactions with the player while also designing and implementing the 3 minigames that the player completes throughout the game.
The first mini game was a simple recreation of dance, dance revolution to reflect the social aspect a typical university student encounters while studying for their degree.
The next minigame is a simple side-scroller where the player acts as an intern trying to delivery coffee in a busy office without spilling any on other employees, this minigame was used to represent the business experience a student can gain while at university.
The final minigame was a simple true and false quiz cause what university experience would be accurate without tests
Other students that worked on this game include, Casey Woods, Theo Minchin and Peyton Horn
